Recognizing a stroke: You could be the one to save a life.

Posted by Aryeh ben Avraham | Labels: , , , , , , | Posted On Sunday, 24 January 2010 at 23:55

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells
disaster. The stroke victim could suffer brain damage during a critically short period while people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Here's good news, though: An alert bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

*Ask the individual to SMILE.

*Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

*Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently, for example, "It is sunny out today").

If he or she has trouble with any of these tasks, call 911 immediately (or in Israel, 101) and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

After discovering that a group of non-medical volunteers could identify facial weakness, arm weakness and speech problems, researchers urged the general public to learn the three questions. They presented their conclusions at the American Stroke Association's annual meeting last February. Widespread use of this test could result in prompt diagnosis, treatment of the stroke, prevention of brain damage, and saving of lives.

Knowledge of the easy tips in this post could help you save another person's life, maybe even a loved one. Saving a life is one of the loftiest mitzvas in the Torah; the more you pass this article on to others, the more merit in potential lifesaving you accrue. It's that simple.

Remember: A stroke occurs when the blood supply to a part of the brain is interrupted by a blockage or breakage of blood vessels. This may be a life threatening condition. The faster you react, the greater the chances of saving the victim's life and preventing permanent damage.

May Hashem send a speedy recovery to all the sick, amen.

The following excerpts of "Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu Rushed to Surgery Friday Night" from "Arutz Sheva - IsraelNationalNews.com", brethren, please include HaRav Mordechai Tzemach ben Mazal Tov in your tefilot, for his full recovery.

Rabbi Mordechai Eliyah

(IsraelNN.com) Former Sephardic Chief Rabbi of the State of Israel Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu was rushed to Shaarei Tzedek hospital late Friday night with a heart attack. The Rabbi underwent a 6-hour surgery which began with a bypass and included an additional procedure. Doctors say the surgery was successful.

After midnight Friday, the Rabbi was feeling bad and having difficulty breathing. His wife summoned a neighbor who is a nurse to his home in the Kiryat Moshe neighborhood of Jerusalem. An ambulance was called and the Rabbi was taken to the hospital at about 2 a.m.

According to one report, Rabbi Eliyahu also is suffering from fluids in his lungs.

We need your help! Please support CCHF in our annual Dinner drive!

Posted by Aryeh ben Avraham | Labels: , , , , | Posted On Thursday, 6 March 2008 at 12:20

Dear Friend,
The Chofetz Chaim told us that the mitzvah of Shmiras Haloshon is the master key to Klal Yisrael’s destiny – so much so that he actually said that it is the single most important step to bringing the Geulah.
With great Siyata D’shmaya we have merited to engineer the largest initiative for Shmiras Haloshon in history. Our goal for the coming year is to raise the number of students using our materials on a daily basis by 30%.
And that’s why I’m writing to you today, to invite you to help us with our Annual Dinner Campaign which is the main fundraising event for CCHF for the entire year. The Dinner will IY”H be held on Monday, March 17, 2008, at the Museum for Jewish Heritage in New York City. We have extended the deadline for ads to March 10, 2008.
Today, over 20,000 elementary and high school students are actively involved in our school programs, and another 30,000 have been touched by our work. Our worldwide events, books, tapes, Chazak Inspiration Line, and 38 other programs, products and services have had a powerful impact on tens of thousands of men, women and children in homes, shuls, schools, and communities across the country and around the world. The feedback we get from teachers and parents alike is overwhelmingly positive.
The net effect of all our programs is that the mitzvah of Shmiras Haloshon has been permanently changed for the better. I invite you to acquire that z’chus by supporting our dinner campaign at this crucial time.
Please download the ad blank from www.torahsponsor.org to place as generous an ad in the Commemorative Dinner Journal as you possibly can, and to make your reservation for the dinner, today. By doing so, you can continue your partnership in helping Klal Yisrael reach our ultimate, collective goal, that of bringing the final Geulah! I hope to personally see you at the dinner.
Sincerely,

Michael Rothschild

Rabbi Noah Weinberg!

Posted by Aryeh ben Avraham | Labels: , , | Posted On Monday, 28 January 2008 at 13:25

Source: Aish.com

If you've ever been inspired by an Aish rabbi or rebbetzin...

or by a Discovery Seminar, Jerusalem Fellowships program, or HonestReporting communique...

or by an article or film on Aish.com...

Then the person to thank is Rabbi Noah Weinberg, the revered and beloved founder and dean of Aish HaTorah International. For the past 50 years, Rabbi Weinberg has dedicated his life to helping countless Jews around the world connect to the beauty and wisdom of Torah.

Now you have the chance to give Rabbi Weinberg something in return.

He was recently diagnosed with a serious illness. This is an opportunity to galvanize everyone who has benefited from the work of Aish HaTorah in prayer and spiritual action for the sake of Rabbi Weinberg's recovery.

Here's what you can do:

First, pray for the complete recovery of HaRav Yisrael Noach ben Hinda.

Beyond this, each of us can show the Almighty that we want and need Rabbi Weinberg's continued guidance by taking one of his core teachings and committing yourself to grow in that area. Every physical action in this world is responded to in kind by the Almighty. Therefore the collective spiritual development will add to the merit of Rabbi Weinberg, and impact the Heavenly scales in his favor.

Chabad and Aliyah!

Posted by Aryeh ben Avraham | Labels: , , , , , | Posted On Tuesday, 6 November 2007 at 20:11

This is really weird, I had planned on posting an article regarding a rather unpleasant comment which I read some days ago, regarding why our brethren of Chabad don't do Aliyah and instead keep growing out of Israel and I have just seen this same topic dealt by my brother Akiva of Mystical Paths. (kindly click to read Akiva's post) Well I would like to add the following to Akiva's post and that is, that Chabad has a G_d given mission in supporting and guiding all us Jews that live abroad and reaching out to the spiritually disaffected Jew. In Lima, Peru where I live, Lima has been home to Chabad-Lubavitch since 1987. The Chabad-Lubavitch Center offers Peru's 3,500 Jewish residents a broad choice of Jewish adult education and youth programs, chaplaincy programs, assistance to senior citizens and holiday enrichment programs. A three-story structure, with a new mikvah, Jewish library, guest rooms, assembly hall and pre-school classrooms, ready already provides Lima's Jews additional resources for enhancing their Jewish living. Chabad-Lubavitch publishes a weekly bulletin which reaches every Jewish household in Peru. Chabad-Lubavitch in Lima assists the many tourists in transit, and provides a full service four times a year in Cusco, near Machu Picchu for the passing tourists. They also assist all unfortunate Jews who are imprisoned due to unfortunate circumstances and provide spiritual and economical assistance to the needed. This been said, I would like to add that Aliyah is a Mitzvah, but also the decision is an individual one. I personally feel that if one has the means, he should do Aliyah. And lastly I would not worry for Chabad, when the time comes, they will do Aliyah.

Israel's Enemy from Within!

Posted by Aryeh ben Avraham | Labels: , , , | Posted On at 14:44

Regarding my previous post, I must say, that I seriously don't understand Bush and Ex Prime Minister Tony Blair, trying to persuade us to surrender Jerusalem to the Moslem's. It's obvious that they are only thinking on their own benefit. They both very well know that Jerusalem has always belonged to Eretz Israel. I must state that by having acted respectfully during the 6 Day War, when we regained Jerusalem, we are paying the consequences today. Had we destroyed the Muslim Dome, today things would be quite different and the world would respect Israel. Kindly click to read article concerning this matter.

Emergency Shmiras Haloshon Campaign for 8 year old girl - update

Posted by Aryeh ben Avraham | Labels: , , , | Posted On at 15:02

Received the following from:editorial@chofetzchaimusa.org QUOTE Dear Friends and Family, Ariella is in the PICU having great difficulty breathing possibly due to the viral and fungal infections in her lungs. Please say some extra tehillim (psalms) for a refuah shelaimah for Ariella Rivka bas Devorah Pessel. We know that every word, every tear, every prayer we offer to Hashem is precious and dear to Him and that no prayer ever goes unheard. Whether we see the results we desire, or Hashem has other plans, we are changed and the world is changed for the better. When we seek Hashem with all our heart, we find peace, especially through the beautiful words of Dovid HaMelech – Kind David. With heartfelt gratitude, Deborah PS: Feel free to pass this along to whomever may be davening for Ariella. Any major changes in Ariella’s medical status will be updated on her website, www.horenstein.org/Ariella, where the spelling of Ariella’s Hebrew name as well as past and recent photos can also be found. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert!

Posted by Aryeh ben Avraham | Labels: , , , , | Posted On Thursday, 1 November 2007 at 17:26

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert

A couple of days ago I heard on CNN, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert announcing that he has Prostrate cancer.

This is terrible and sad news, and I think that we should all start praying that Hashem be merciful with him and cure him.

Probably some of you think that he deserves this cancer and probably more for all what he has done, but let me tell you that he is a Jew, yes he is a Jew, the same as you and me, and we must love him and desire the best for him, also we are not called upon to judge him, that corresponds to Hashem.

Ponder for a while and get rid of all negative thoughts toward him and meditate on all what has befallen on Eretz Israel and you will see that it's Hashem's doing and that we are the only ones to blame; yes we are the only ones that have caused all what has happened and happening; Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is just a tool for Hashem's doings.

We don't live like Jews, we are living immodestly, we don't study Torah, we don't pray, we insult, criticise, hold grudges and slander our fellowman, and other terrible things which have obliged the Shechinah to withdraw from Eretz Israel.

If worse things have not happened, it's only because of the prayers of the few righteous Chassidim that are carrying the heavy burden on their shoulders and Hashem is merciful by listening to their prayers on our behalf.

The reason we should love our fellowman is because he is you and you are him, and you are them and they are you.

Let's stop insulting, aggravating, being disrespectful toward our fellowman and start living like real Jews; returning to Torah, Mitzvot, Tzedaka, Praying, refining our character, changing egoism for altruism.

So therefor, let's pray for the prompt recuperation for Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and that all of our Leaders, return to Torah, so that Eretz Israel again can have the Schechinah abiding in it's midst.

United we will be victorious, divided we will perish.

High Holidays - Simchat Torah

Posted by Aryeh ben Avraham | Labels: , , , , | Posted On Tuesday, 2 October 2007 at 22:15

Simchat Torah
Celebrating the Torah

On Simchat Torah we celebrate the completion of the year round cycle of reading of the Torah. All the Torah scrolls are taken from the Ark and carried in a parade around the synagogue seven times. This is called “Hakafot”.

We rejoice, sing and dance with the Torahs, for the re-establishment of our covenant with the Torah as a groom rejoices with his bride. For the Torah is betrothed to Israel as a wife is to her husband.
