Israel faces its greatest existential threat in its history.

Posted by Aryeh ben Avraham | Labels: , , , , | Posted On Thursday, 27 March 2008 at 22:37

Just finished reading Rabbi Lazer Brody's, Emuna News Special Report: The Sword on Israel's Jugular. Which states the following:
Israel faces its greatest existential threat in its history. At this very moment, every single city, town, and village between the northern border and Dimona is a push-button away from oblivion, for the triple menace of missiles from Syria, Hizbollah, and Iran rest like a sharp sword on Israel's Jugular.

Is there anything we can do? Most of us are hundreds or thousands of miles away, in our own communities; yet our very being cries out: What can we do?
Here my dear brethren are some ideas that we can start putting into action immediately.
The Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memory, taught us that, yes, there is something we can do.
The Rebbe taught us the power of a mitzvah.
A mitzvah, a G-dly deed, has the power to reach deep into the core of our being--where we are all one, and the physical distance between us is of no consequence. At this core, a positive deed on our part will help bring salvation to a brother and sister in distress.
During past conflicts in the Land of Israel, and during times of danger for the Jewish people, the Rebbe made practical suggestions of mitzvot that would elicit G-d's blessings and protection.
Let us not underestimate the power of good! With a single good deed on our part, here and now, we can each contribute toward the victory and safety of our fellow Jews in Israel.
Take a minute to do one or more of the following. You can make a difference!
Torah study Say a prayer for the soldiers of the IDF, and for all residents of the Holy Land (suggestion: Psalm 20 is traditionally said in times of distress). Charity and acts of kindness: Put a coin in a charity box, give a gift of money to a fellow in need or to a charitable cause, or extend a helping hand to someone who needs it. Tefillin: If you already put on tefillin every day, encourage a friend to do so. If you don't yet, now is a good time to start!. Mezuzah: If you don't yet have a mezuzah get one now! If you already do have one, it may be time to have it checked to ensure that the words on the parchment have not faded. Tzitzit: start wearing tzitzit even during the night, and even while sleeping.

Secret of Rain!

Posted by Aryeh ben Avraham | Labels: , , , , | Posted On Wednesday, 26 March 2008 at 18:51

By Tzvi Fishman
As if Israel doesn’t have enough problems with a host of savage enemies, a government of corrupt and mediocre politicians, and millions of Jewish refuseniks who refuse to give up the exile, now there is no rain. The water level of the Sea of Galilee is very low, and farmers are bracing for a dry and economically disastrous summer.
The Talmud teaches that the power over rain is one of the three keys that the Almighty has kept for Himself - the key of Rain, the key of Childbirth, and the key of the Resurrection of the Dead” (Taanit 2A).
Before exploring the connection between transgression and rain, this concept of keys must be explained. Since G-d rules over everything, what is the meaning of retaining three keys for Himself? The answer is that in establishing His sovereignty over the world, G-d has appointed celestial messengers to rule over different aspects of existence. For example, G-d Himself rules exclusively over the Land of Israel, but over every other country, He has appointed an angel. This celestial minister gives each nation its distinctive culture.
Because the key of rain is in G-d’s keeping, when rain does not fall in Eretz Yisrael, we know that G-d Himself has turned off the faucet. It isn’t some freak disturbance of regional weather patterns, but, as the Talmud teaches, the result of our sins:
“Rabbi Tanchum ben Hamilai said, No rain falls unless the sins of Israel have been forgiven” (Taanit 7B). The Talmud goes on to list many transgressions that cause the withholding of rain, but to understand the secret of the matter, we will turn to the holy Zohar.
It turns out that the secret is no mystery at all, as it explicitly states in the Shema:
“Take heed to yourselves, that your heart not be deceived, and you turn aside and worship other gods and bow down to them; and then the anger of the L-rd will be inflamed against you, and He will shut up the heaven that there be no rain, and that the Land yield not its fruit; and you perish quickly from the good Land which the L-rd gives you” (Devarim, 11:17).

Survey: Israeli Public Opposed Further Disengagement Even Before the War with Hizballah.

Posted by Aryeh ben Avraham | Labels: , , , , , | Posted On Tuesday, 18 March 2008 at 19:39

By Yechiel Leiter
For the past fifteen years, Middle East peace-making has been dominated by two consecutive, illusory, political paradigms. The first paradigm, encapsulated by the Oslo Accords of 1993, belonged to a vision in which it is believed that a solution exists to every problem.
The second paradigm – unilateral withdrawal – proposed that reality could be changed by withdrawing from it, by unilaterally disengaging from it. There was a hope that a fence would define a border and Israel would be left alone. But after the fact, the public no longer sees the Gaza disengagement as having brought Israel greater security.
In a poll conducted for the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs on 9-10 July 2006, just prior to the outbreak of the war with Hizballah on July 12, only 19% of respondents said that they felt a greater sense of security since the disengagement from Gaza, while 45% said they felt less secure. Only 33% said Israel was more secure as a result of the disengagement, while 65% felt that the disengagement did not improve Israel's security.

Vice Premier Haim Ramon: Outposts must be removed now

Posted by Aryeh ben Avraham | Labels: , , , , , | Posted On Sunday, 16 March 2008 at 13:18

How sad and frustrating it is to read an article like the following one.
It seem that we still don't learn our lesson, that the Torah states the Holy Land belongs exclusively to the descendants of Avraham, Yitzchak and Ya'akov.
May Hashem have mercy with us.
This is what Vice Premier Haim Ramon thinks and says:
Israel should move faster to dismantle outposts and do more to enable the Palestinians to build two industrial parks in the West Bank, Vice Premier Haim Ramon said Saturday.
Vice Premier Haim Ramon told Israel Radio it was time for the defense establishment to end drawn-out negotiations with settler leaders on the fate of the outposts.
While Vice Premier Haim Ramon acknowledged that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Defense Minister Ehud Barak were making efforts to reach a peaceful agreement with settler leaders, he stressed that outposts would have to be dismantled regardless of whether or not such an accord was achieved, even at the price of a violent confrontation.
"The military insists on security arrangements," he said. "On the other hand, the broader view requires us to take certain risks, and I am among those who believe that it would have been possible to reach certain agreements with the Palestinians on civil affairs."

Top Hareidi Rabbi Bans Arab Labor Following Merkaz HaRav Attack

Posted by Aryeh ben Avraham | Labels: , , , | Posted On at 12:33

by Ezra HaLevi
(IsraelNN.com) Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, considered a top Torah sage of the generation in the hareidi-religious community, issued a Jewish legal decision banning the employment of Arab workers by Jews according to the Yom Chadash daily.
“According to Jewish law, it is completely forbidden to hire Arabs, especially in yeshivas,” Rabbi Kanievsky said. “There is a concern of endangering lives.”
The rabbi continued, explaining, “After all, we are at war with them…and are there not Jews that can work and make a living?”
Rabbi Kanievsky went even further, saying that Jews should refrain from employing any non-Jews, not just Muslim Arabs, and instead grant livelihood to Jews, unless there exists a huge disparity between the labor costs.
Rabbi Kanievsky is one of the most recognized authorities in hareidi-religious society. He is the son of the Steipler Rebbe, Rabbi Yisrael Yaakov Kanievsky, and the son-in-law of Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, the leader of Lithuanian Hareidi Jewry.

Government-promoted hatred toward Jews and prejudice couched as criticism of Israel, have risen globally over last decade, report to Congress says. 'Today, more than 60 years after the Holocaust, anti-Semitism is not just a fact of history, it is a current event'
Reuters
Published: 03.14.08, 07:38 / Israel Jewish Scene.
Anti-Semitism, including government-promoted hatred toward Jews and prejudice couched as criticism of Israel, has risen globally over the last decade, the State Department said on Thursday.
"Today, more than 60 years after the Holocaust, anti-Semitism is not just a fact of history, it is a current event," it said in a report to Congress.
US embassies have noted an increase in attacks on Jewish people, property, institutions, and religious facilities in the last decade, the report said.
The report, titled "Contemporary Global Anti-Semitism," did not give comprehensive statistics, and said that in any case such statistics were skewed against Western democratic countries more likely to report the incidents. But it said other governments and institutions had documented similar trends.

Facebook transfers Ma'aleh Adumim residents to 'Palestine'

Posted by Aryeh ben Avraham | Labels: , , , , , | Posted On Thursday, 13 March 2008 at 19:49

By ABE SELIG, JPost.com
Facebook no longer allows members from Ma'aleh Adumim, Ariel, Betar Illit and other settlements over the Green Line to list their hometowns as situated in Israel, but instead provides only a preset location, with their country listed as "Palestine."
"Someone at Facebook is simply prejudging whatever may or may not come about in future negotiations," said Czarny. "Who exactly decided on this computerized transfer of over a quarter-million Jews from Israel to Palestine?"

Mesilat Yesharim!

Posted by Aryeh ben Avraham | Labels: , , , , , | Posted On Monday, 10 March 2008 at 16:30

Rabbi Shlomo Wolbe, the last of the great Mussar personalities wrote:
"It is incumbent on a person to review constantly the book Mesilat Yesharim. (Rav Chaim Volozhiner zt'l said to his chief disciple R.Zundel Salanter that he should take the Mesilat Yesharim as his road map for life.)
At first the book may seem simple but really the more a person matures and grows in understanding , the more he will see wonders in depth and breadth in the Mesilat Yesharim Rabbi Yerucham zt'l was accustomed to say that the Mesilat Yesharim is the summation of all the kaballa books of the Ramchal and is therefore also the preparation gate to learning the inner chambers of the Torah... as one studies and reviews this book carefully, slowly slowly he will find the inner meanings in his (the Ramchal's) words - and in ourselves. 'Fight Islamism all over the world'

The victims of the Merca Harav Yeshiva. Top row: Avraham David Moses (16), Ro'i Roth (18), Neria Cohen (15), Yonatan Yitzhak Eldar (16); Bottom row: Yochai Lifshitz (18), Segev Peniel Avihail (15), Yehonadav Haim Hirschfeld (19), Doron Meherete (26).

Israel supporters worldwide must organize massive rallies and public prayer vigils in memory of those killed in the Thursday attack on a yeshiva in Jerusalem, Jewish Agency Chairman Ze'ev Bielski wrote in a letter to Jewish leaders this week.

"We must unite and bring word of this attack to all corners of the world, to expand the circle of support and identification with Israel's ongoing struggle against terror," Bielski wrote in the letter.

'The entire country is in need of mercy'

Posted by Aryeh ben Avraham | Labels: , , , , , , | Posted On Friday, 7 March 2008 at 17:01

The head of the yeshiva, Rabbi Yaakov Shapira was the first to speak:

"We are all in need of mercy, the entire country," Shapira cried.

"Pray for all of us and give good counsel to the families, to the anguished friends."

Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar was weeping as well. "We have paid with our best boys, who were sitting by their talmuds … torah was their entire world, they are the roses that have been picked … and God will have mercy on us for their merit.

Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski also addressed the crowd:

"Lord, nations have invaded your land, desecrated your holy hall, eight of our sweet loved ones, may God avenge their blood, who only yesterday were living amongst us, are no longer with us. Their lives were severed by lowly murderers … but the murderer did not wish to target them alone, but rather each and every one of us, each and every resident of the holy city of Jerusalem.

For many years our enemies have been trying to ruin our lives, to harm us as much as they can. Jerusalem has paid heavily in blood, and the long long list was joined last night by our eight sons."

We need your help! Please support CCHF in our annual Dinner drive!

Posted by Aryeh ben Avraham | Labels: , , , , | Posted On at 12:20

Dear Friend,
The Chofetz Chaim told us that the mitzvah of Shmiras Haloshon is the master key to Klal Yisrael’s destiny – so much so that he actually said that it is the single most important step to bringing the Geulah.
With great Siyata D’shmaya we have merited to engineer the largest initiative for Shmiras Haloshon in history. Our goal for the coming year is to raise the number of students using our materials on a daily basis by 30%.
And that’s why I’m writing to you today, to invite you to help us with our Annual Dinner Campaign which is the main fundraising event for CCHF for the entire year. The Dinner will IY”H be held on Monday, March 17, 2008, at the Museum for Jewish Heritage in New York City. We have extended the deadline for ads to March 10, 2008.
Today, over 20,000 elementary and high school students are actively involved in our school programs, and another 30,000 have been touched by our work. Our worldwide events, books, tapes, Chazak Inspiration Line, and 38 other programs, products and services have had a powerful impact on tens of thousands of men, women and children in homes, shuls, schools, and communities across the country and around the world. The feedback we get from teachers and parents alike is overwhelmingly positive.
The net effect of all our programs is that the mitzvah of Shmiras Haloshon has been permanently changed for the better. I invite you to acquire that z’chus by supporting our dinner campaign at this crucial time.
Please download the ad blank from www.torahsponsor.org to place as generous an ad in the Commemorative Dinner Journal as you possibly can, and to make your reservation for the dinner, today. By doing so, you can continue your partnership in helping Klal Yisrael reach our ultimate, collective goal, that of bringing the final Geulah! I hope to personally see you at the dinner.
Sincerely,

Michael Rothschild

Verbal Abuse of Children

Posted by Aryeh ben Avraham | Labels: , , , , , | Posted On Sunday, 2 March 2008 at 19:52

Rabbi Lazer Brody, of Lazer Beams, has written an Article concerning Verbal Abuse of Children, which I think it’s very important for us that have kid’s to read. Rabbi Brody states:
Onaas devorim, Hebrew for verbal abuse, is a severe transgression. Rabbi Yisroel Meir Kahan, the famed Chofetz Chaim, says that a person is better off losing every material possession in the world, rather than committing one transgression. No parent has the right to verbally abuse a child.
